I’ve decided to start work on a piece of software which will be useful within the industry I work in. I don’t want to go into too much detail about what the application will be for but thought it would be useful to others if I blog about various parts of the experience as I work on it.

One of the things my application will require is the ability for users to create their own interfaces by adding text boxes and buttons to a design surface, in a similar way to Visual Studio 2005/2008 and storing these “screen layouts” in a database, providing a basic development environment to customize the application to the users requirements. The actual controls that they will move around to create their layouts do not have to be functional controls, but “positioners” for where controls will appear during application use and as such will probably end up being custom user controls rather than real buttons and text boxes for instance.

This evening I thought I would look into how to drag and drop controls around a form using real buttons for now, the example should work for any type of control. I will try to post my learnings in tutorial format so that anyone should be able to follow them. Continue reading »

Legion hold is quite a well known farming spot, often there are a few Alliance and a few Horde there because of the good loot and the quick easy-kill spawns.
Tonight I thought I would have a quick go there, recording everything I made and how long it took me. I’m planning on doing the same for other popular farming spots.

One of the amazing things about World of Warcraft is that Blizzard allows anybody with the know-how to modify/improve the user interface.
There are various websites that distribute these player-made addons, the most well known in my opinion being Curse.com
Admittedly, at this point I don’t have the know-how so everything in this post will be pretty basic and aimed at helping those new to interface modifying.

While I was over at El’s Extreme Anglin - World of Warcraft Fishing Guide I noticed that there were tooltips for various links to items, that appeared in a similar way to that when you hover over an item in the game.

If there’s something I hate more than fishing, it’s World of Warcraft fishing. This has to be the most boring skill in the game yet it can bring with it great rewards.
Fishing and Cooking go hand in hand and levelling both at the same time (at least up to 300 skill) is the most efficient way to do things.
Unfortunately, I am no longer prepared to sit there for hours on end waiting for a bite and clicking bobbers. I decided to experiment with automated gameplay. The way this is done is by using 3rd party software products that imitate actual human play processes. This is frowned upon by a lot of players and strictly forbidden in Blizzard’s T’s & C’s. Blizard actively watch for botters, suspending or banning their acccounts when they are found.
